CHA3U American History

Window into America

The Class Upon a Hill”

As the first activity using the textbook, you are asked to work as separate States, with the main goals of the Union at the forefront. Each State will be allotted a section of the first Chapter in an attempt to divide and conquer the work. This activity is in preparation for the first Union Chapter Quiz on ________________________________.

Here is how the States will divide the Topics:

1. The First Americans
2. The New Europe
3. Medieval Asia and Africa
4. Europeans Seek the East
5. Maps: Trade & Travel, Original Settlers
6. Timelines: The Visual Story 1500 B.C. – 1500 A.D.

Day 1: You will be given time to study your section and think about ideas of how to most effectively transmit the information to the rest of the Union. This will also be a good time to get familiar with the structure of the textbook and the citizens of your state.

Day 2:

Part A: Today you will have the first part (25 Minutes) of the period to prepare the presentation of your section. Remember that your treatment of this section will help other states and citizens in their goal of learning what they will need to know for the Quiz. Each State will be provided with markers, chart paper and some scissors. It is up to your State to organize anything else that you might want to include (pictures from the internet or magazines, supplementary info to enhance the presentation, presentation style).

Part B: The Presentations will be limited to seven minutes each (7X6 States=42minutes). It is up to your State how you will present your information.
