// Man Of Steel // Koba // Uncle Joe //
 |
Joseph Stalin is arguably the most influential
dictator of the 20th century. Born Iosef Vissarionovich
Dzhugashvili in 1879, he changed his name to Stalin, meaning
"Man of Steel," while still young. He came to power following the death
of Vladimir Lenin. He became dictator and ruled the Soviet Union
for over a quarter of a century. He died a natural death in
1953. He was 73. |
| Although he murdered more people than Adolf Hitler, Joseph Stalin is remembered
more positively than negatively. His people remember the good this
he did for their country, rather than the tens of millions of lives he
took. Adolf Hitler, on the other hand, murdered millions of Jews |

| [Stalinist
System] |
| The Stalinist
System was Joseph Stalin's terror regime. He used terror in
order to get what he wanted. He would threaten, scare and
force people to do or say what he wanted. If Stalin didn't
like you, or what you did, said or thought - your life would be
over. Done. His reign of terror lasted for as long as
he was in power. |
|
| [Foreign Policy] |
| Uncle Joe's foreign policy was both a
huge achievement, but it was riddled with mistakes. He was a
very good diplomat, which helped out the Soviet Union
greatly. But it was Stalin's hunger for power which ultimately
was the downfall. He would kill off those around him when
they disappointed, but many of them would be high ranking in the
military or government. Therefore, Stalin could get the information
he needed, but didn't have the support he needed to follow through
with his plans. |

| [Political Cartoon] |
The Above Political cartoon depicts the murderous actions of
Adolph Hitler and Joseph Stalin. |
|
 |
"A
single death is a tragedy; a million deaths is a statistic."
To illustrate how he treated his own people, watch the 'Stalin
Creates An Omlette' skit. The skit shows Joseph
Stalin's disregard for human life and that, in his eyes,
"a
single death is a tragedy; a million deaths is a statistic." |
|
Joseph Stalin
massacred millions of his own people. The death total is
rumoured to be from anywhere from twenty to thirty million.
This is broken down into the following:
o About 15 million forced famine (starved to death)
o Roughly one million executed for political
"offences"
o At least 10 million more deported, exiled or imprisoned in
work camps, never returning alive. |

| ["The Big
Three"] |
| The “Big Three” was an
alliance between US President Franklin Roosevelt, British Prime
Minister Winston Churchill and Soviet Union Premier Joseph Stalin. |
 |
| On February
4, 1945 at the Yalta Conference, the Big Three met to discuss the post war situation in Europe.
The dividing of Germany was decided upon at an earlier
time, but at the Yalta
conference things changed. Churchill feared that Russia had too much control and therefore he
strongly opposed
the dividing of Germany. Roosevelt separated from Churchill, and therefore would only deal with Stalin.
Later, this little move was seen as treason and
Roosevelt took much heat for his actions. In the end, the Soviet
Union gained
control of Eastern and Central Europe |
|
| [In
Closing] |
| Even today,
Uncle Joe is still praised as a strong leader who achieved great
things due to his confrontational foreign policy and his domestic
terror regime (known as the "Stalinist System").
Not only did he have an impact on the Soviet Union then, but on
world politics now.
