Re: Darfur

The General Assembly,

Recalling the humanitarian crisis of Darfur in Sudan,

Recognizing there are human rights violations, refugees in Darfur are in risk of torture, rape, death, looting and destroying of properties, they are without basic human needs

Distressed that there are no active United Nations peacekeeping mission in the region of Darfur, Sudan to stop the conflict and protect refugees,

Noting with concern over 500000 refugees are internally and externally displaced, to neighbouring provinces or countries such as Chad, these refugees are in need of protection, food, water, and shelter,

Appalled by the lack of security in the region for humanitarian aid organizations the Red Cross, Doctors Without Borders, those that are trying to provide humanitarian aid to the region,

Reminding that the sovereignty of Sudan should be respected,

Commending the effort by member countries to send humanitarian aid and initiate peacekeeping missions to the Darfur region as well as brokering a cease fire,

Recognizing the conflict is between the Sudan government, its militia the Janjaweed, and various Darfur rebels,

1. Strongly condemns the actions of the Janjaweed, and the militia who have no regard for basic human rights of the refugees, civilians in the surrounding areas

3. Calls upon United Nations member states to initiate a peacekeeping mission and provide troops for a peacekeeping mission in Darfur to prevent further conflict, protect the refugees, broker a cease fire.

4. Takes note of cooperation from the Sudanese government is necessary to help stop the conflict and relieve the humanitarian crisis

5. Trusts the member states of the United Nations to commit to the mission and to provide support for the mission to relieve the humanitarian crisis

6. Further invites Chad to provide secure refugee camps to house displaced persons from the Darfur region and protect the refugees from violations of human right committed by both sides of the conflict

7. Condemns the sale of arms to the rebels, and the Janjaweed militia used for the conflict and violation of human rights
