Heritage Fair Pavilion

Culminating Activity

 

 

The Heritage Fair is an opportunity for students to understand historical events that occurred during 20th Century Canada and present their findings in an authentic and interactive way.  Students will be required to work effectively within a group setting and produce a booth for the Heritage Fair that will take place on _________________________________ from 1:30 – 5:30. 

 

 

Project:                   

Working in groups of 3-4, students will create a booth for a heritage fair.  Each booth will

focus on a different topic related to Canadian history and must contain the specific  
  components. 

 

All grade 10 history classes (during the semester) will participate and compete for awards

and overall recognition during the Heritage Fair in the school cafeteria.

 

* Note:  teacher evaluation will be an individual mark based on each student’s individual

research, vision statement, class work, presentation and peer assessment)

 

 

 

Components:       

Each booth must contain the following elements:

                                   

ü      an informative and attractive display board that will educate judges / guests about your topic

ü      a 3-D model OR recreated artefact(s) related to your topic

ü      an interactive component; your booth must include something for the judge /  guests to DO  (NOTE:  the 3D model and interactive component can be the same thing)

ü      students must prepare a brief (5 minute) presentation which will introduce and explain your topic to the judges / guests

ü      presenters should be in costume related to their topic, or dressed in professional attire

 

 

 

 

 

 

Judging

  • Judging panel will be comprised of teachers, admin, senior students or parents
  • each booth will be judged a minimum on TWO times by the judging panel during the first round of judging
  • judges will choose approximately 4-6 booths as finalists and visit each of these booths for a THIRD time as a panel to decide the winners
  • each booth will be judged on following criteria: 

a)      Knowledge of topic

b)      Quality of information

c)      Presentation

d)      Interactive element

e)      Display board

 

Awards

There will be three awards presented at approximately 4:45 pm:

 

Heritage Fair Overall Winners  (winners receive medals + name on plaque)

-selected by panel of judges

 

Student Choice Winners  (winners receive medals)

-voted by participating Heritage Fair students

 

      Character Award (winners receive medals)

            -selected by classroom teachers

 

 

Food

Pizza and pop will be sold at the Heritage Fair around 4:30 pm.
