What? • during the beginning of the Great Depression, King made a speech about how social welfare was the responsibility of the provinces • also declared that he would not give a "five-cent piece" to any province that did not have a Liberal government Historical Significance • was one of the reasons why Liberals lost the elections and Conservatives too over. • Prime Minister Richard Bedford Bennett replaced Mackenzie King.
