What? On the morning in 1917, a French munitions ship (the Mont Blanc) carrying a cargo of explosives, collided with the Belgian vessel Imo in the harbor. Close to 300 tones of explosives were set off. 2 Thousand people were killed and thousands more were injured or left homeless br> Historical Significance Biggest artificial explosion ever recorded until the atomic bomb dropped on Hiroshima in 1945. . The Canadian government provided 18 million for rescue purposes. . |
