Religious Report

Religion can probably be said to be much more complex than other guaranteed rights simply because it is hard to accurately define the word itself. Although there are many websites on the Internet that shows the assorted and curious facts about the religions of the world, studying religion should be more about learning it as an aspect of the human culture as well as its impact and influence in the past, in the present and in the future.

Gods have most likely been created by humans in the past or else the concept would probably not exist today. In the past, religion probably had the most impact and influence on the people because it was what they probably created and what they based their life upon. Most, if not all, ancient civilizations followed a form of religion and they lived their lives based on those beliefs. For example, religion was perhaps the most important part of Ancient Egypt. In an Egyptian's eyes, the life around him, from the sickness of a relative to the death of his cat, was all a planned act of a god. The importance of religion in Ancient Egypt can be shown in the Egyptian arts that depict various gods and goddesses. A lack of advanced technology may also have been a reason why religion had a major impact on the people in the past. Since medical aid may not have been an option during times of illness, most may have turned to their deity or deities for help. In the end, religion played a very crucial role in the historic and even prehistoric times and has helped developed the spectrum of religion to what it is today.

Not everyone today is religious. Some people choose to follow a religion later on in their life while others are born into religious families. Religion today is probably not as closely followed as during the ancient times because of the major and rapid technological advancements. Medical science is discovering new cures everyday for diseases that didn’t even exist in the ancient times. Life is much more complicated than in the past and some people may feel that they simply don’t have the time to be fully committed to being religious. Science is beginning to uncover new theories on ideas that were easily explained by religion in past. One of the big questions is the creation of the universe. Scientists have now presented the theory of the “Big Bang” which is, in short, the theory that a big explosion created the universe. Most religions simply believe that God created the universe. Religion will never become lost because there are simply things that can’t be explained by science such as miraculous medical recoveries and because billions of people are religious, but if science and technology starts to overshadow religion, what place will it have in the future?

Religion will never disappear from the human culture because there are simply too many people that are religious. Christianity has two billion followers and Islam is still continuing to grow as the fastest growing religion, but will science and technology overshadow religion in the future? New religions cannot be invented, but existing religions can adapt and adjust to new environments in the future. It will still have an impact and influence on people who have beliefs and there will continue to be people who seek for a “higher being” to guide them through life, especially after near death accidents or life-changing events. From a religious point of view, it could be said that God would not create science and technology so that they would contradict Him or suggest that He does not exist. Though religion may not play as crucial of a role as it did in the past, it will still be around to be an essential aspect of the human culture.

Whether someone is religious or not, religion has been an important aspect of the human culture and can be used to show and define how unique the human race is. Studying religion is not about judging different religions’ truthfulness or capability, but more about the impact and influence that it has had on humans and how it has played a role in shaping the multi-religious world today.
