Feng Shui is the
ancient Chinese art of living in harmony with your home, garden and your
business environment. By the simple
reorganization of your surroundings on the key principles of movement, light
and order, a transformation in your fortunes can be accomplished.
Feng Shui
- literally
means “wind and water”
- can be
used to predict and alter situations such as health, wealth, family life
and relationships
- Everything
is designed to be harmonious and to blend with nature
- There
are three important basics of Feng Shui
1) Yin= the actual house and its construction and direction
2) Yang= the way the ch’i flows in and around your home
3) You
- By
checking the Feng Shui
of your home you can tell if al these are in harmony, and make changes to
the balance if necessary using the Eight Remedies
Taoism
- Important
principles of Feng Shui
are based on Taoism, the ancient religion of China
- According
to Taoist thought, the universe can be divided into two separate areas,
matter and spirit
- Yin=
things that are real (earth,
matter) = dark area
- Yang=
things that are spiritual (heaven) = light area
- Twin
concepts of Yin and Yang are considered complementary- each need the other
to exist

Ch’i
- Chinese
believe that there is a universal energy called Ch’i
- As you
open a door you allow Ch’i to enter, bring
vitality and life into your home
- However,
Ch’i picks up residual energy from whatever it
passes (ie.
if your home faces a cemetery it picks up grief; but don’t worry, if your
house faces something unpleasant, there are remedies to purify or correct
the Ch’i as it enters the home
- Ch’i likes
to flow gently through open spaces, and if your home is full of clutter
and untidy areas it will become confused and unfocused
- Ch’i likes harmony and beauty, cleanliness and balance
- An
unbalance of ch’i can lead to loss of fortune,
unsatisfactory relationship, inability to relax, lack of friends, disruptive
children or ill health
Eight Enrichments
- If you
are standing with your front door open holding the compass in your hand,
which direction are you facing?
- According
to Feng Shui
principles, you should ideally face south or south-east
- This
is because your house is divided into eight areas called enrichments, each
covering a vital aspect of human life
- The
first area, which is always in the south section of the house
is your fame and reputation area.
Thus, ideally, as you open you front door and step outside you are
stepping into your fame and standing in the world
- But
what if your house faces another direction? You can see which direction, and thus
which enrichment, dominates your life merely by checking your house
direction
Looking at your Home
- Make
an outline of the major rooms in your home; On front door, mark what
direction you face as you open the door
- Overlay
the Pah Kwa (eight sided)
- The
shape of your ground plan may mean that one or more enrichments are not
occupied by any rooms, or other areas fall outside the Pah
Kwa
- If the
area is missing then that is an enrichment you are missing; or you may
have an abundance of an enrichment
- Remember
the enrichment of the fame always does to the south, no matter which direction
your house faces
Bedroom
- Two important things to watch out for when
checking the Feng Shui
of your bedroom are that there are no beams above the bed and that the bed
is not directly opposite the door
- If you have beams = hang fabrics from beams to
interrupt the accelerated flow of ch’i
- Position the bed so that you can see anyone
coming into the room before they see you
- By Chinese tradition, a dead person is always
carried feet first out of the bedroom, so you should never have your feet
alighted directly opposite the door
- Should not have an office or study in your
bedroom
- As you enter the bedroom, you should be able to
see yourself in any mirrors , nor should be able to see yourself in a
mirror when you are in bed
- Bedrooms should be as light and uncluttered as
possible
