Who? What? Reigned from 1334 – 1323 BCE Tutankhamun, more commonly known as King Tut, was the son of Akhenaton He opposed his fathers beliefs on worshipping the god Aton, and set about to restoring the Egyptian religion and empire King Tut died at the young age of eighteen, and due to his sudden death, he was put in the tomb of a member of nobility as his own was not yet constructed; this left no motivation for grave diggers to rob it Key Definitions / Terms sarcophagus: a stone coffin, esp. one bearing sculpture, inscriptions, etc., often displayed as a monument Mummy: the dead body of a human being or animal preserved by the ancient Egyptian process or some similar method of embalming Book of the Dead: a collection of ancient Egyptian papyrus books, many with elaborate illustrations, each containing prayers, hymns, incantations, and formulas for the behavior of the souls of the dead
