THE TRUE SEMINAR
During
each SEMINAR, a group of students
will conduct the session. Each group
member will present, ask questions, and lead a discussion with the class. The focus of the tutorial will follow from
the lecture or topic area of the week and is based on an assigned reading.
One
week before the seminar the leaders must:
ü
collect the reading from the teacher
ü
carefully read and understand the reading
ü
write a point-form summary of the reading
ü
create a glossary of at least 10 new terms from the reading
ü
develop 8-10 questions (ranging from comprehension to discussion) and
record the answer to these questions
On
the Thursday before the seminar the leaders must:
ü
meet with the teacher to submit the question sheet and review the
answers
ü
hand the question sheet out to classmates (after
meeting with the teacher!)
During
the seminar session the leaders must:
ü
briefly review the reading with classmates
ü
include a short interactive activity to get people involved
ü
ask questions and provide feedback (basically stimulate a discussion
based on the readings)
ü
help guide the discussion to keep the class on topic
One
week after the seminar each seminar leader must:
ü
submit a 2 page (typed) reflection of the reading/topic
that outlines how you feel about the subject.
You must include clear references to the reading, opinions that were
asserted during the seminar and discussions and your own opinions.
What is the
responsibility of the class during these tutorial sessions?
ü

ü

ü
