ASSIGNMENT:
SEMINAR MODERATOR (20%)
Task
Individual candidates are required to lead reviews of assigned course reading
materials in small groups. Candidates will be signing up for seminar dates
based on topic and preferred times. Other group members will review the
readings, respond to the seminar moderator's questions, and engage in the
subsequent discussion/debate. Specifically, you will:
1) Post your online schedule (Typically when you will be online during the week
you are moderating).
2) Review the assigned readings for the session, create a brief introduction to
the readings, and write 5 to 7 generative discussion questions that will be
posted to the course site.
3) Monitor discussion within the group in a timely manner for the duration of
the assigned time.
4) Generate discourse within the group by responding to each group member's
posts and creating follow-up questions.
5) Demonstrate familiarity with the session's readings through posted comments
and corrections of any misinterpretations in the group discussion.
6) Post a summary conclusion that encapsulates the main points agreed upon by
the group at the end of the seminar session.
7) Evaluate the participation and discourse of each of your group members. This
information will be provided to group members and the instructor.
A Reminder to All Candidates
Seminar readings and the discourse they generate may well be the most important
element of this online course. It is expected that each member of the group
will carefully read all assigned material and will actively participate in the
seminars each week. This participation will be assessed as part of each
student's Online Discourse requirements.
Thanks,
