Mr. George Taylor - Head of Music

Mr. Taylor has studied music at a variety of institutions, including York University, the University of Toronto, Humber College, and Queen’s University. He specialized in jazz studies and music education. Mr. Taylor is currently in his sixteenth year of teaching, the first year of which was at the elementary level. Prior to becoming a teacher, he was a professional musician for nine years.

Mr. Lyle Corrigan

Mr. Corrigan received his Bachelor of Fine Arts from York University in 1993, and his Bachelor of Education from Nipissing University in 1994. From 1994 to 2000, he taught grade 7 core and intermediate instrumental music in the Durham District School Board. Presently, Mr. Corrigan teaches vocal music and music theatre at Markville, and junior and intermediate music at James Robinson P.S..

Mr. Sean Hu-A-Kam

After graduating from the Jazz Performance program at York University, Mr. Hu-A-Kam earned his Bachelor of Education from the University of Toronto. Mr. Hu-A-Kam has taught Kindergarten through O.A.C. and has conducted several award-winning choirs, bands, orchestras, and jazz ensembles. In addition to being a teacher, Mr. Hu-AKam enjoys composing and arranging, and occasionally performs as a freelance jazz bassist in the Toronto area.

Ms. Penelope Jeffrey

Ms. Jeffrey has taught for over 25 years, the past 18 of which has been at Markville Secondary School. She has a Bachelor of Music Education and Bachelor of Education from Western University, and a Bachelor of Arts in French language and literature from the University of Toronto. Ms. Jeffrey has taught Music, French, and English, and will be teaching Keyboard in the music department for the 2009 / 2010 school year.

Mr. Terrol Sinclair

Mr. Sinclair is currently the Keyboard specialist with the Music Department. He is kept busy accompanying various ensembles and soloists, as well as running the Keyboard Lab and the Vocal Jazz Choir. He also teaches primary music and Intermediate Choir at Central Park P.S. Mr. Sinclair is a graduate of the York University Music Department, and the York University Faculty of Education. His musical experiences include being the founder and director of the Lisle Memorial Academy of Music, in Toronto, as well as being the accompanist for the Toronto Mass Choir, a Toronto based Gospel Choir.

Mr. Will Stokes

Mr. Stokes is a graduate of the University of Toronto’s Faculty of Music and Queen’s University’s Faculty of Education. He is also completing his Master of Education from Queen’s University in Curriculum Studies. Mr. Stokes teaches voice, musical theatre, guitar, instrumental jazz, and is staff advisor to Music Council at Markville Secondary School, all the while teaching instrumental music at Unionville Public School. He is an active singer and performer of musical theatre and jazz repertoire, and is the musical director for a local-area Big Band in the community.
