GLOSSARY OF TERMS:

 

Socialism: the theory or system of ownership and operation by society or the community, rather than by private individuals.

 

Nationalism: a devotion to one’s nation; patriotism.

 

Individualism: the leading of one’s own life in one’s own way without regard for others.

 

Welfare-state: a state in which the welfare of its citizens is promoted largely by the organized efforts of the government rather than by private institutions.

 

Ephemeral: short lived; transitory.

 

Collectivism: the ownership and control of the means of production and distribution by the people as a whole; socialism.

 

Dogma: that which one thinks is true; opinion.

 

Protectionist: a person advocating protectionism (the system, theory or policy of protection) and opposed to free trade.

 

Indoctrination: an instruction in principles, theories and beliefs.

 

Rumination: meditation; reflective consideration.

 

Homogeneous: the same race, family, or kind.

 

Assimilate: to incorporate; to make like or alike.

 

Autonomy: self government.

 

Mandate: an authoritative order or command, especially a written one.
