Egypt was an ancient civilziation dating back to the third millenia B.C.E. At the time, Egypt was the most advanced civilization, with the best medicine, science and mathematics. Many ideas were taken from the Egyptians. The Roman Calender, for example, was acutally based on the Egyptian calender.
Egyptian society is based around the Nile River, being the only sorce of abundant water in Egypt. Surrounding Egypt on both sides of the Nile was a vast desert, which account for the stability and slow cultural growth of Egypt. The desert also protected Egyptian societ from invaders. Egyptian society valued stabilty over change, and it is for this reason why change in Egypt was slow and gradual.
