The Founder:

Confucius, also known by his Chinese name K'ung Fu-tsu, was a great philosopher and educator.    

He was born in Lu, China in 551 BCE

◘ "Confucius was completely free from four things: He had no forgone conclusions, no dogmatism, no obstinacy and no egotism."

◘ He believed people were loosing morals. With virtue and good manners they would be able to control themselves

◘ With the fall of the Chou dynasty, Confucius became convinced he had to teach society to take responsibility for their actions

◘ He was appointed magistrate of Chung-tu and later became Minister of Justice of Lu.  With Confucius in power Lu was known as a province of fairness and justice.  

◘ In 496 BCE Confucius felt he needed to leave office.  He taught his practices out of the borders of Lu.

◘ Before dying in 479 BCE, he studied and taught followers. 

Mencius:

◘ A Chinese Confucian philosopher following the principles of Confucius  

◘ Defended the beliefs of Confucius after he died

◘ He told people not to dwell on the gods and to remain grounded

◘ He believed good is in all people and evil is only learned

 Mencius

Hsun Tzu:

◘ He brought Confucianism to life, explaining the importance of virtue

 ◘ He warned evil could easily corrupt humans
