Historical Summary Canada has participated in the Summer Olympic Games since 1900 and
the Winter Olympic Games since 1924. The most medals ever won by Canada
were 44 at the Summer Games. Canada recently won 24 medals (the most
for them in the Winter Games) in 2006 at the Turin Olympics. Cindy Klassen,
Canadian speed-skater, broke a Canadian record by winning 5 medals at
the 2006 Turin games. Klassen is also the current record holder of the
1000, 1,500,3,000 metre races records. Another Canadian, Simon Whitfield,
holds the record for the fastest Triathlon title which he won at the
2000 summer games. Whitfield, who crashed at the start of the race,
came back to win it and take gold. Canada’s performance in sports,
and mainly the Olympics have been at times minimal, however, when Canadians
use their heart and soul they put on memorable performances to prove
Canada can accomplish a lot in Sports. |
Canada's involvement in sports has brought Canada recognition on
