Who?
The Babylonians existed about 7000 to 2500 years ago.
Lived in the area between present day Iraq between Tigris and Euphrates.
Babylonians relied on argiculture and created very complex irragation systems to water their crops, even though they lived in the desert.
Was known for their architecture of beautiful temples and public buildings.
Was one of the first civilizations.

Key Definitions / Terms
Agriculture: The science, art, and business of cultivating soil, producing crops, and raising livestock or farming.

Before Common Era(B.C.E) : B.C.E is the partner of C.E. - a replacement for A.D.: Anno Domini, The Year Of Our Lord – and itself replaces B.C., Before Christ.

Cuneiform: The earliest standardized writing system, a form of writing on wet clay tablets using a wedge-like writing tool called a stylus.

Historical Significance
Created many architectural techiniques still used today (sun dried bricks). Was the most powerful people in Mespotamia at the time, and the was one of the first succesful civilizations. King Hammurabi of Babylonia created laws and codes we still follow today, "Eye For An Eye, Tooth For a Tooth".


Interesting Facts
The Babylonians were very skilled at the arts,science and mathematics. Known to have created the early stages of writing.


  Developed many techiniques that were extremly advanced for their time, were very intelligent people who valued mathematics and literature.

They devloped sundried bricks, and most of Babylonian buildings were built from these bricks.

The Babylonians brewed beer in ancient times.
