GST?

GST, or Goods and Services Tax is a value added tax which exists in several countries, such as Australia, New Zealand, Singapore and of course Canada. As the name states, it is a 7% additional charge on most goods and services, the exceptions being a few essential services. GST was implented in Canada on 1989 by prime minister Brian Mulroney.

History Significance

For creating this tax, Brian Mulroney became the most hated prime minister in Canada. (despite the good GST has done, such as removing the MST, and creating a closer relation with the US.
