SUMMARY OF PEACEKEEPING MISSION Peacekeeping was developed by canadian diplomat and later the Prime Minister of Canada, Lester b. Pearson in 1952 during the suez crisis. Peacekeeping help countries restore peace torn away by conflicts. The Canadian peace support efforts are not only soldiers but also it also includes such variety of groups such as the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) and their provincial and municipal partners, Elections Canada and Corrections Services Canada, and takes place not just through the United Nations but also through regional forums such as the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO), the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE), and the Organisation of African Unity (OAU). Peacekeeping missions include monitoring and observing peace conflicts that emerge in post-conflict situation. They assist combatants in implementation the peace agreements they have signed. Within those missions the peacekeepers assists the countries in many forms, including confidence-building measures, power-sharing arrangements, electoral support, strengthening the law and patrolling of borders. Along with, economic and social development.

Peacekeeping is one of the great aspects of Canadian heritage. Canada builds on the establishment of the peacekeeping tradition to make strong and imaginative contribution to international peace and security. Peacekeeping was originally primarily military activity but, throughout the fifty years of experience in peacekeeping Canada had developed better relation ship with other countries. |
