Cooperative Education

What is Co-op?

Cooperative Education allows students to:
Test a career
 Explore their interests and aptitudes
Develop specific job skills and gain experience
Develop attitudes for success in the workplace
Gain valuable employability skills
Qualify and prepare for future part time, full time, and summer employment
Gather references for their resume
Earn compulsory credits and facilitate entry to college or university

Co-op courses further develop skills and knowledge acquired through related in school courses.  For example, students who have successfully completed the grade 11 Technological Design course may choose to pursue co-op work in a related field such as auto mechanics, tool and dye, or engineering.

Before the job placement begins, the students participate in a unit called Pre-placement orientation.  Topics include:  job application forms, interview skills, preparing a resume, safety on the job and so much more. Throughout the semester, students return to school on a regular basis for integration sessions to discuss workplace experiences, continue with journals, assignments, presentations, etc.

Assessment and Evaluation is based on the student meeting both employer expectations at the workplace as well as the course expectations
